Thursday March 18th, 2009:

We went to a breakfast this morning. They greeted all the kids as we walked in and gave them all mickey mouse hats. After breakfast they had Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Pluto come out and they took pictures with the kids.

The rest of the day we spent at Downtown Disney.

Thursday night we went to a dinner at the resort and met more champion families.
We are a little late updating this blog. But I wanted to post some things. Better later than never. :)

Wednesday March 18, 2009:

We left Little Rock for Orlando, Fl. It was a pretty easy day of flying. We met up with one family in the airport at Atlanta
We arrived in Orlando and were met by the CMN staff. They were so nice they helped us get on a shuttle to the resort. Once arriving a the resort we were greeted by more CMN staff and Disney staff. They were there and had already checked us into a room. It was a beautiful day in Orlando.

We went to Downtown Disney to have a dinner and Shelby played with a few of the kids at the resort.

Shelby's Story

Shelby Clinton
Age 12
Arkansas Children’s Hospital
Brain Tumor

In December 2003 Shelby Clinton wasn’t counting down the days until Christmas, he was counting down the days until brain surgery. Shelby was undergoing surgery at Arkansas Children’s Hospital to remove a large tumor that was growing inside his brain.

Chemotherapy and radiation began immediately after the surgery. Through it all, Shelby maintained his positive, outgoing attitude. “He has endured surgery, chemo, radiation and multiple MRIs, and I have never heard him complain,” says Sue Hibbs, one of his caregivers.

Shelby, now 12, is cancer-free. He loves to play soccer and basketball in his hometown of Sherwood, Ark., and is a stellar student. In fact, Shelby maintained As and Bs throughout his time at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

His medical experiences have helped him determine a future career—helping children with cancer. “I want to be a doctor working with cancer patients,” said Shelby. “My doctor at Arkansas Children’s hospital wasn’t just a doctor that gives medicine. He cares for his patients and makes them feel better. I want to be a doctor like him when I grow up.”

About Walmart and Sam's Club

Wal-Mart has supported Children’s Miracle Network since 1987. Since then, Children’s Miracle Network and Wal-Mart have worked tirelessly together to help children by raising money for children’s hospitals. This is the first year Walmart and Sam’s Club have sponsored the Champions Across America program.

Champions Across America presented by Walmart and Sam's Club

Champions Across America presented by Walmart and Sam’s Club is a Children's Miracle Network program that brings attention to the important work being done at children’s hospitals by honoring remarkable children who have faced severe medical challenges.

The Champions Across America program designates a Champion child in every state who has bravely battled a serious injury or illness. The Champions represent the nearly 17 million children treated at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals every year. The 2009 Champions have dealt with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses including brittle bone disease, brain tumors and cerebral palsy, as well as surviving car accidents and plane crashes.

As part of Champions Across America, the Champions travel for a week – first to Florida to meet Children’s Miracle Network sponsors, hospital and media partners who all convene to celebrate a year of medical miracles during the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration event at Walt Disney World Resort. The group will then travel to Washington, D.C., where Champions traditionally meet with their state senators on Capitol Hill, and the President of the United States during a visit to The White House.
